Forest Row Primary School, located in the heart of Forest Row, East Sussex, is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Nursery Assistant to join our friendly and passionate team!
 

The role requires an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare and Education or a relevant equivalent qualification.
 

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an enthusiastic and skilled Early Years practitioner, able to engage children through a variety of play-based activities that support their physical, intellectual, and emotional development.

  • Collaborate with the Class Teacher to create an exciting and purposeful learning environment.

  • Act as a key worker, forming close, caring relationships with allocated children and maintaining open communication with parents and carers.

  • Be flexible, working closely with other EYFS team members to ensure the smooth running of the nursery.

  • Be committed to professional development and keen to engage in ongoing training.

Nursery Assistant

We are thrilled to announce that Forest Row Primary School is looking for an Apprentice to work in our nursery from September 2026.
 
Apprenticeships are a great way to start your career and can give you the opportunity to learn and train while working alongside experienced staff to give you job-specific skills.  

You will undertake qualifications, including a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ), with a local training provider and have a mentor or supervisor in the work place to support you.

Who can apply?

Anyone living in England, over 16 and not in full time education can apply to be an apprentice.

Training will be provided through a level 3 early years educator course and you will receive 20% of your working hours off to study.
 

The role is term time only, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 3.45pm.
 

Purpose of the Role:

To learn about working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team, providing a stimulating and caring environment for children aged 0-5.

 

1. Learn how to plan, prepare and participate in a range of activities that promote each child’s physical, intellectual and emotional needs, and encourage linguistic and social interaction between the children and their carers.

2. Learn how to be responsible for a group of children, by observing, monitoring and accurately recording each individual’s development in line with the curriculum planning of ‘The Foundation Stage’ and ‘Birth To Three Matters.’

3. Learn how to promote the philosophy of ‘learning through play.’

4. Learn how to help children acquire self-help skills, including dressing, feeding, toilet training, and an awareness of personal hygiene.

5. Learn about ensuring the Childcare Centre environment meets safety and hygiene requirements.

6. Learn about the Children Act 1989 and other statutory requirements, and how to implement The National Standards for Full Day Care to the highest standard.

7. Learn how to maintain records and documentation that, comply with statutory requirements.

8. Learn how to respond to Child Protection Policy and Confidentiality.

9. Undertake the apprenticeship training including NVQ in Childcare, Certificate in Childcare and Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number.
