  Polar Explorers Workshop

On Tuesday 3rd March we took part in a Polar Explorers workshop.  We met Dan Tastic, a real life modern day explorer, and he showed us many artefacts related to the polar regions and told us about famous polar explorers from the past.  We learned lots and lots and had a really fun day with him.  Here are a few photos of our workshop in action!

Pattern Penguins

Birch Class have been working really hard in their art lessons.  We have been focusing on pattern and used what we had learnt about pattern to decorate our penguin drawings.  We then used watercolour paint to paint them.  We had to be really careful with our painting as it was tricky trying to keep the paint within the lines.  We're really pleased with our results and hope you enjoy viewing them here.

 Who is in your family?

Birch Class have begun work on their new topic 'What makes a home?' by thinking about who is in their family.  They discussed if everyone in their family lived in the same house before creating these amazing houses.  They are on display in our classroom and we're very proud of them.   Here are some photos of our finished houses.

 Important information

  • Our PE lessons this term are on a Tuesday with Mrs Upton and on a Thursday with Mr McCarthy.
  • Please bring a filled water bottle to school everyday and a warm waterproof coat and hat and gloves as we will endeavor to go outside at break times whatever the weather.
  • School uniform and PE kit needs to be named please so we can quickly reunite stray items with their owner.

Home Learning

Please read with your child everyday from their Read Write Inc or book band book and record the reading in their reading record.  The children on Read Write Inc have a bookmark for their book band with tricky words to also practise reading nightly.  Inside the reading record you will see that there are tasks to be completed to help develop your child's reading skills.  Those children who have finished the Read Write Inc programme have a gold band reading book to start with and then progress up through the book bands.

There will be a maths task set on a Friday which will link to our work in class.  The task will be sent home in a home learning book and should be completed in the book and returned to school by the following Friday ready for the next task.

The children in VIPERS for reading will begin learning spellings this term.  The spelling pattern and words will be introduced on a Monday, worked on on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and tested on a Friday.  The following Monday a few of the words from the week or weeks before will used in a recap test to check that the spelling rule is still remembered.
