Pupil and Sports Premium

The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools for pupils, in Years R to 11, that are known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) or who have been eligible for FSM in the past six years (Ever 6).

Pupil Premium is also allocated for children who have been looked after by the local authority (LAC) continuously for more than six months.  In East Sussex Pupil Premium for LAC is managed by the Virtual School for Children in Care. A premium is also paid for children whose parents are currently in the Armed Forces.

In Forest Row C of E Primary School we are using the funding to provide extra support for nurture and intervention, as well as one to one assessment for early identification of needs.  The impact on pupil progress and achievement is monitored regularly.

The Sports Premium is a grant designed to help primary schools improve the quality of PE and sport activities. For example, we can use the funding to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers
  • hire qualified sports coaches to work with teachers
  • provide existing staff with teaching resources to help them teach PE and sport
  • support and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs, holiday clubs and Change4Life clubs
  • run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools
